Museum of Art and History of Guanajuato

In 2008, the city of León welcomed the Museum of Art and History of the Guanajuato Cultural Forum, which can be found a mere twenty-minute walk away from the San Francisco Hotel Guanajuato. The entrance to the museum is guarded by a statue of San Sebastian, the patron saint of León who was a Roman martyr, and beyond him lies an area filled with a range of exhibitions, some of which are permanent and some which are only there for a short time. The exhibitions that are a permanent feature showcase a range of works by local and Mexican artists as well as some that highlight the historical life of Guanajuato. Inside the museum is a grand Opera Theatre that can hold 1,500 people and its events attract people from all over the country.

Zona Piel

León has been dubbed the Shoe Capital of the World as it is home to nearly 3,500 shoe manufacturers and hundreds of shoe stores that can be found in Zona Piel. Not only is there an impressive selection of footwear boutiques but, due to the fact that León is also known for its leather production, there are a huge range of shops that sell an array of leather goods. If you’re in the market for good, quality leather items such as belts, wallets, purses, luggage, coats, jackets and boots, Zona Piel is the place to visit. This shopping area houses several thousand shops, stands, street vendors and booths that sell shoes and leather items for a good price but be sure to inspect the quality as some of the goods will not be as high quality as others. Once you are all shopped out, explore the surrounding area where you will find hotels and a great selection of restaurants such as the Leon Mexican Restaurant.

Explora Science Center

Aimed at the young and old alike, the Explora Science Centre is an adventure for all ages. It is a site filled with innovative displays and exciting new developments while respecting its religious surroundings within León. It is one of the most popular attractions in the city and it draws in thousands of visitors each year. While its interior is an exciting place to explore, it isn’t restricted by its four walls as it has an incredible range of exhibitions that take place outside which includes an amazing train and aeroplane display. It is a great place for the whole family to enjoy.
