Linksys Wireless-N range extender lets you repeat the existing WiFi signals of any access point (AP) or router in order to provide uninterrupted internet connectivity in hard-to-reach areas through a secure wired or wireless connection. Before you begin with the Linksys extender setup process, be certain that you’ve done the following:


Identify the access point or router's wireless settings which are:





  • Wireless SSID (network name).




  • Wireless password or security key.




  • Wireless channel.




Reset your Linksys WiFi range extender





  • Locate the reset button on your Linksys WiFi range extender.




  • Press and hold the reset button on your Linksys extender for a few seconds or until the power LED starts blinking.

Linksys extender setup: Eliminate dead spots





  1. First of all, make sure that your Linksys range extender is placed near to your existing WiFi router and away from thick walls, baby monitors, metal appliances, electronic gadgets, battery toys, cordless phones, Bluetooth speakers, microwaves, etc.




  2. Plug your Linksys WiFi extender into a working electrical outlet.




  3. Connect your router to the Ethernet port of your Linksys range extender using an Ethernet cable.




  4. Launch an internet browser and type 192.168.1.1 or extender.linksys.com into the browser's address bar field.




Important Note: If your desktop or laptop has displayed a default startup web page on your internet browser, a dialog box asking for default username and password will appear automatically.





  1. Now, an extender.linksys.com login window will appear asking for login credentials (default username and password). Fill the credentials carefully and click on Log In.




  2. Select the Wireless tab and click on the Basic Wireless Settings option.




  3. Click on the Manual button and enter your existing router’s SSID (network name).




  4. Enter the passphrase and click on Save Settings button.




Important Tip: For the best Wireless-N performance, it is advised to use WPA/WPA2 wireless security on your existing WiFi router and Linksys range extender.





  1. Unplug the power cables of your computer/laptop existing router and Linksys WiFi extender for a few seconds. Plug in your router first. Wait for some time for all the LEDs to be stable then plug in your Linksys WiFi range extender.
