Whether you are moving to a new place or redoing your walls paint, there are some easy but important steps which you must follow. If you follow these steps correctly then your walls will not only look professionally painted but the paint will survive for a longer period of time.

Before you start prepping your walls for paint, make sure that there is no furniture piece in contact with the wall. Move your furniture out of the way so you can easily reach the walls without having troubles. For high ceiling walls, you may need the help of a ladder to reach the top parts of the wall. If you are doubtful about doing it alone, you may ask your sibling or friends to join in and help you along the way.

Once you are ready to proceed firstly examine the wall and the paint. If there are any uneven surfaces on the wall then you will have to first cover them up with the help of plaster and let it cool before you step on to the next step.

Painters tape is a very inexpensive item which needs to be applied to all corners of your wall to protect the primer and colour from leaking on to the sides, frames and other parts of the connecting walls. If you have any switchboards on the wall, then you will need to paint them as well.

If there are no uneven surfaces on your wall then you can easily move to the next step which is priming the wall. A primer is the base coat for your wall which protects your wall and make sure that your paint is sticking to the wall properly.

You need to let the primer cool down before moving on to the next step which is applying the paint. Be very sure that you have selected the right shade before painting the entire wall. For a test, you can apply paint to a small part of the wall as a patch test and see if it is the desired shade.

Once you are sure about the colour then apply paint on the corners of the wall with a brush and paint the centre parts of the wall with a paint roller. With the help of paint roller, you can easily paint larger areas quickly however paintbrush will give you precision on the corners of the wall.

You will probably need to double coat your paint colour to get better paint coverage and colour visibility. If needed, paint the walls once again. And lastly, remove the painter's tape and your walls are perfect looking art piece.
