One of the innovations of cosmetic surgery includes laser rhinoplasty. This is also known as laser reshaping surgery and has grown to be one of the common procedures asked by men and women who seek nasal improvement. If this is the first time that you have encountered this term or procedure, here is some basic information that you would want to know.

Laser rhinoplasty is a non-invasive procedure to improve the appearance of the nose without all the incisions. But it can also use in conjunction with surgical rhinoplasty to enhance the results further.

You see, there are times where the nose can become thickened or deformed due to thickened skin. This is a condition known as rhinophyma. This is a condition that is characterized by a large bulbous nose resulting to a ruddy appearance, which is considered to be a severe form of rosacea. This change in appearance usually creates certain distress, and it is mostly common in men than in women.

This procedure is carried out using local anesthesia and two lasers that will target the skin with the safe intensity that is also effective. A carbon dioxide or CO2 lasers are used to thin out the thickened skin on the top portion of the nose with the energy being focused on the nose preventing any damage to the surrounding areas.

The treatment creates a warm tingling sensation but with very minimal pain. The result and the treatment will be similar to that of sunburn. You have to make sure that you protect it from heat or direct sun exposure because the skin will be highly sensitive during this time. Avoid touching or rubbing the area to prevent irritating the area.  During the healing process, natural shedding of the skin will also occur. As a result, the nose will eventually have a smoother and finer nose.

But to promote successful results you must be a perfect candidate for it. Ideal patients are those who are young, but those who are in their forties and over can also benefit from it. You must also abstain from smoking for a significant period because this impairs the normal blood flow to the area, thus impairing the normal recovery process.

Patients who have diabetes (insulin dependent) and also those who have clotting disorders are also at a higher risk for complications. Teenagers who have not passed the growth spurt stage are also advised against it because there is a good chance that the nose would still have to grow, and any changes done prematurely might be affected as the patient ages.

The cost of a laser rhinoplasty is significantly much cheaper compared to the surgical one. Prices usually range between $2,000-$6,000 depending on the clinic or the surgeon.

But the choice to get a laser rhinoplasty is dependent on how the doctor assesses the patient. There are some cases where the surgeon would see it more fitting for you to have the surgical rhinoplasty performed. This is the reason why you need to get a consult with a highly competent surgeon.
