Worried about shipping your high-value, luxury items? Discover how to send jewellery and watches for local or international delivery safely and securely with Overland Express. Whether it’s a gift for a loved one or a personal indulgence, sending precious items requires careful consideration. In this post, we’ll explain how we ensure a stress-free journey for those treasured pieces.

Choose the right courier:

Selecting a reliable courier service is crucial. Especially when sending expensive, often sentimental items. Opt for well-established companies with a proven track record in handling delicate and high-value items. Luckily, we can help you out with this. Working in partnership with industry-leading names like DHL and UPS, we can save you time and money by comparing prices and services for you and offer discounts of up to 70%. All you have to do is choose the service that best suits your needs.

Package your jewellery correctly:

We always recommend you use the original manufacturer's box whenever possible. They are specifically designed to hold the items in place and provide a high level of protection. If you don’t have access to this, most high street jewellers sell watch and jewellery boxes. Select a suitable replacement for the item you’ll be sending. Avoid anything that reveals the contents of your package by choosing a plain, cardboard shipping box to place your jewellery box in.

You will need:
Parcel tape
Bubble wrap/tissue paper
Manufacturer's box or suitable jewellery box
Slightly larger, plain shipping box

1.Wrap each piece of jewellery in bubble wrap or tissue paper, this prevents scratching and damage.2.Place the jewellery in the manufacturer's (or suitable) box. Ensure the piece doesn’t move around in the box too much. Add a little tissue paper to secure it if necessary. Then place in to the plain shipping box.3.Fill any empty space in the shipping box using bubble wrap, foam peanuts or other packing material to prevent the jewellery from shifting during transit.4.Paying particular attention to the seams and edges, close the box up securely and seal it shut using good quality parcel tape.5.Print off and attach your parcel label to the box. If you’re shipping internationally, you’ll also need to attach a commercial invoice. More on this below.
Documentation and Insurance:

Whether you’re sending your jewellery for domestic or international delivery, it’s important to have the right documentation in order. This includes a detailed inventory list, receipts, relevant certificates of authenticity, commercial invoices and insurance. For overseas shipments, it’s good practice to familiarise yourself with the destination countries customs regulations and ensure you comply with their requirements. When you book with Overland Express, we take care of the customs paperwork for you based on the information you enter at the time of booking, free of charge. Just print it out and place the label on the outer box in a place where the driver can see it. Unlike most courier services, we can offer specialist jewellery insurance for high-value items, meaning you’ll be covered for loss and damages up to the value of £20,000.00 (exclusions apply, for items over £5000.00, please contact us for a tailored quote.)

It’s essential you have the peace of mind knowing where your valuables are at all times. With that in mind, we provide door-to-door tracking for all our jewellery and watch delivery services. This allows you to monitor the location of your package and receive updates on its estimated arrival time.
